Kindle Genre Watch: New in Mystery Fiction (04 October 2010)

Spend less time searching for new genre fiction and more time reading it as I watch for newly-released genre fiction in the Kindle Store so you don't have to. Recent genre fiction releases in mystery and thriller fiction include:

Worth Dying For: A Reacher Novel by Lee Child. Delacorte Press. Print length: 400 p. Kindle edition $9.99. Text-to-Speech: Disabled.
"There's deadly trouble in the corn country of Nebraska...and Jack Reacher walks right into it. First he falls foul of the Duncans, a local clan that has terrified an entire county into submission. But it's the unsolved case of a missing child, already decades-old, that Reacher can't let go. The Duncans want Reacher gone - and it's not just past secrets they're trying to hide. They're awaiting a secret shipment that's already late - and they have the kind of customers no one can afford to annoy. For as dangerous as the Duncans are, they're just the bottom of a criminal food chain stretching halfway around the world. For Reacher, it would have made much more sense to keep on going, to put some distance between himself and the hard-core trouble that's bearing down on him. For Reacher, that was also impossible." - http://www.randomhouse.com
This is Child's fifteenth thriller to feature lone wolf Jack Reacher, the guy you'd most like to have watching our back in any dangerous situation. If you haven't read any of the Reacher novels, check out my earlier post on the series.

Naked Heat by Richard Castle. Hyperion. Print length: 304 p. Kindle edition $9.99. Text-to-Speech: Enabled.
"When New York' s most vicious gossip columnist, Cassidy Towne, is found dead, Heat uncovers a gallery of high profile suspects, all with compelling motives for killing the most feared muckraker in Manhattan. Heat's murder investigation is complicated by her surprise reunion with superstar magazine journalist Jameson Rook. In the wake of their recent breakup, Nikki would rather not deal with their raw emotional baggage. But the handsome, wise-cracking Pulitzer Prize-winning writer's personal involvement in the case forces her to team up with Rook anyway. The residue of their unresolved romantic conflict and crackling sexual tension fills the air as Heat and Rook embark on a search for a killer among celebrities and mobsters, singers and hookers, pro athletes and shamed politicians." - Amazon.
"Richard Castle" is prominently featured in the popular ABC series Castle.

Early Warning by Michael Walsh. Pinnacle Books. Print length: 360 p. Kindle edition $4.39. Text-to-Speech: Enabled.
"The NSA's most lethal weapon is back. Code-named Devlin, he operates in the darkest recesses of the US government. When international cyber-terrorists allow a deadly and cunning band of radical insurgents to breach the highest levels of national security, Devlin must take down an enemy bent on destroying America - an enemy more violent and ruthless than the world has ever known." - Publisher.

The Embroidered Corpse by Brian Kavanagh. BeWrite Books. Print length: Kindle edition $5.95. Text-to-Speech: Enabled.

"Two startling murders that replicate the death of a mediaeval English king and the discovery of a mysterious ancient tapestry lead Belinda Lawrence and her associate Hazel Whitby into a vortex of suspense involving a bizarre religious cult, an enigmatic academic, a group of monks devoted to aggression and clues to a thrilling conspiracy nearly a thousand years old. Are the Godwins, self-proclaimed spiritual leaders, really devoted to their religious group? Is Sir Gerald Taylor, revered university don, as benign as he appears? What is the origin of the puzzling tapestry discovered in the old country house?" - Amazon.
This is volume two of The Belinda Lawrence Murder Mystery series, following Capable of Murder. It was first published in 2006 and is now available for Kindle readers.

The Bishop by Steven James. Revell. Print length: 523 p. Kindle edition $9.11. Text-to-Speech: Enabled.
"FBI Special Agent Patrick Bowers's cutting-edge 21st-century geospatial investigative techniques and impeccable logic have helped him track some of the country's most grisly killers. This time it's a congressman's daughter who is found dead even as her killers launch a spree of perfect murders in the Northeast. With nothing to link the crimes to each other, Agent Bowers faces his most difficult case yet - even as his personal life begins to crumble around him. Known for his intricately woven, masterfully plotted novels of high-octane action and spine-tingling suspense, Steven James delivers once again. The Bishop is a gripping, adrenaline-laced story for readers who are tired of timid thrillers. Strap on your seatbelt and get ready for a wild ride. The game is on." - Amazon.
This is book four in the Patrick Bowers Files series that began with The Pawn.

Captive by Megan Lisa Jones. Polimedia Publishing. Print length: 397 p. Kindle edition $9.99. Text-to-Speech: Enabled.
"Khalil, an Al Qaeda operative, is held in American captivity after being seized evaluating the location for a possible bombing in London. Mean-while Omar, a graduate student in Los Angeles, is painstakingly planning a series of bombs to detonate across the United States. Khalil was to lead this mission; but his disappearance doesn't slow down the plot. Can the plot succeed with its mastermind imprisoned?
